BIGFOOT FAMILY
Cert PG
89 mins
BBFC advice: Contains threat

World leaders may have been ambivalent towards climate change and positive environmental messages but it is becoming ever clearer than animation studios are not.
Hot on the heels of several others, the makers of BigFoot Family have been crystal clear in their efforts to influence young minds.
And they have created a film which is good fun too.
Ben Stassen and Jeremy Degruson have returned to BigFoot (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) who is now a television star much to the annoyance of his son, Adam (Jules Wojciechowski).
However, he misreads his dad who is determined to use his fame for the betterment of society.
Thus, when he sees a report of environmental protests against oil drilling in Alaska, he feels compelled to join in.
This winds up his son even more but soon he and his mum (Lindsey Alena), their pet grizzly bear (Michael Sorich) and racoon (Joey Lotsko) go off to help when it is announced that BigFoot has disappeared,
BigFoot Family has all of the ingredients which add up to successful animation.
There is the young bashful hero who will appeal to the kids, good role modelling from mum and dad, the talking animals and the merciless villain - in this case, the head of an oil company (Grant George) who cons the public into believing he cares about the environment.
It's no surprise that it has been a Netflix hit - if your family haven't seen it, it's a worthwhile 90 mins even if its resolutions are far too twee.

Reasons to watch: Keen environmental message
Reasons to avoid: Too twee

Laughs: None
Jumps: None
Vomit: Yes
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Did you know?
In 2007, Alaska lawmakers questioned major oil companies over their role in a bribery scheme that resulted in the criminal convictions of a former legislator and two former executives from VECO Corp, once the state’s largest oil-service company.

The final word. Ben Stassen: "What really made me want to make a sequel is the fact that, out of all of our films, these are my favourite characters. Also, I loved working with Canadian screenwriters Bob Barlen and Cal Brunker who wrote the first film, and I wanted to do it all over again." Cineuropa
